Eco-Friendly Library, change lives through Environment & Culture
‘BANGBAESUP Hwangyeong Library’ is the first public library in Korea operated by an environmental NGO, Econow, and was established in June 2023.
Located within Seoripul Park, the library spans 1,632㎡ across one underground and two above-ground floors, and is designed as a nature-friendly space.
Environmental-themed books are placed throughout the library, allowing visitors to access environmental content from anywhere inside.
Through exhibitions, lectures, and hands-on programs centered on the environment, the library serves as a community space
for citizens to learn, reflect,
and act on environmental issues.
In 2024, the library became a model for sustainable environmental libraries by engaging in eco-friendly actions
such as green campaigns, volunteer programs,
public events, café operations, and solar power generation,
reducing carbon emissions by 15,841 kg (equivalent to planting 2,400 pine trees).
